Carpe diem! Plan of attack. Conquer the day. These are some of the common phrases people use when talking about the way they approach their day. This paradigm helps to explain some of the stress many of us feel in our day-to-day lives. We go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning looking at each new day as a challenge. An opponent to be subdued. Our “fight” response is always on. When fight is your default mode no amount of self-care, meditation, or sage will change that. These things may bring temporary relief, but as soon as you begin your next day you go back into fight mode. Your adrenaline shoots back up and the stress returns.
So what can you do? Change your thinking. Instead of approaching every morning you wake up in your body like an enemy, try treasuring it as a gift. Replace phrases like “Seize the day!” with ones like “I flow through my day with ease” or “I am grateful for the blessings I have received today.” When we embrace each day as a dear friend we change our vibration. Our days will begin to shower us with joy and beauty of a loved one, rather than the stressful challenges of a foe.
